Reports

There are three main reports that are created to help with the development and the implementation of Healthy Alaskans. These reports are the State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP), the State Health Assessment (SHA), and the Community Capacity Review (CCR). All of these reports were created through work with the various Healthy Alaskans teams and were subject to public comment before being finalized.

Developing the state health improvement plan, Healthy Alaskans, requires a lengthy process of data collection and workgroup input and effort. The resulting data from these processes help inform the development of each iteration of Healthy Alaskans.

The State Health Assessment (SHA) is conducted every five years to review quantitative and qualitative data regarding the health status of Alaskans. The SHA identifies the most important health issues impacting Alaskans and the health improvement needs of the state. This SHA report presents the findings of the most recent assessment and includes a description of Alaska’s demographics, health issues of specific population groups with particular health issues and disparities or inequities, factors that contribute to the state population’s health challenges, and community resources and assets to address health issues.

The Community Capacity Review (CCR) is a public health system assessment that provides a starting point for launching performance improvement efforts to strengthen the overall capacity of the state’s public health system. The assessment focused on answering the following questions: • What are the components, activities, competencies and capacities of our statewide public health system? • How are the ten Essential Services (ES) of Public Health provided throughout Alaska?

The State Health Improvement Plan, Healthy Alaskans 2030, is updated every decade and contains the most significant health priories for Alaska. Through a comprehensive and inclusive process, organizations and individuals from communities across the state have agreed to the HA2030 objectives and targets for the next decade and agree to work together to achieve them.
